Toilet Paper Roll Turkey Thanksgiving Table Place card!
Let’s create a cute and fun Thanksgiving place card for your holiday dinner. Easy to make using simple crafts and toilet paper rolls.

These place cards are not only quick and easy, but also a budget-friendly craft, perfect for using up craft scraps you already have. Additionally, I’ve included a template that you can print out to make things even easier.

What You’ll Need:

  • Toilet paper rolls
Colored card stock-  I recommend reds, oranges, and yellows for the tail feathers; light brown for the wings; white card stock—for the name card; and black for the hat
  • Pipe cleaners- any color
  • Googly eyes (optional)
  • Markers, crayons or paint pens
  • Brown acrylic paint and a brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue or a hot glue gun (with adult supervision)
  • Turkey place card template

Let’s Get Started!

1. Paint the toilet paper roll:
First, remove any toilet paper pieces stuck to the rolls. Paint the toilet paper rolls with brown acrylic paint, ensuring you paint the top and bottom edges as well. It may take a couple of coats to get even coverage. Let dry.

2. Cut out the feathers and wings:
Use the template as a guide, follow the instructions, and cut out the feathers, wings, and hat in the colored card stock.

3. Create the tail feathers:
Lay the tail feathers in a fan pattern, with the largest in the middle, followed by the next size, all the way down to the smallest. Glue the fan together by applying glue to the edges with a glue stick. Then, use a glue gun (recommended for strength) and glue the tail feathers to the painted toilet paper roll, making sure that the tail feathers are higher than the top of the toilet paper roll (see example).

4. Make the hat:
Glue the light brown band to the brim of the hat, then add the yellow buckle over the band. Glue the hat to the very top and in the center of the paper roll.

5. Add the face:
Add googly eyes, or make your own eyes out of paper, below the hat and centered on the roll. Use your best judgment on where you would like to place them. Cut out a small triangle in yellow to create a beak and glue it to the roll, positioning it below and between the eyes.

6. Paint the wings:
Take your wings and paint the outside, left and right, with a fun pattern to mimic feathers. You can use markers, paint pens, or any other art materials. Then glue each wing to the sides of the paper roll just about halfway down.

7. Create the name card:
Use your white card stock and cut out little signs for your turkey to hold. You can make them any shape you would like. Add your guests’ names to the cards and decorate them. Using a pipe cleaner, create the stick for your sign by cutting it to the desired length. The sign should be taller than the tail feathers. Glue your sign to the top of the pipe cleaner, and glue the bottom of the pipe cleaner to the front side and on the far edge of the turkey’s right wing. Then, overlap the left wing over the pipe cleaner and the right wing,  and glue the pipe cleaner to the inside of the left wing. So it looks like your turkey is holding the sign.

Make it your own
Add details to your turkey’s face, and add a wattle using construction paper or yarn. Or add feet to the bottom. Have fun and be creative. Kids will love helping to decorate the table and will proudly show off their work to family and friends.
