These adorable cat face holiday ornaments are easy to make using simple, no-sew techniques! They are perfect for kids of all ages—elementary kids can do this independently. Younger ones might need help cutting and gluing, especially if you’re using a hot glue gun. But don't worry—it's a straightforward process.
These ornaments are not only quick and easy, but also a budget-friendly craft, perfect for using up felt scraps you already have. Plus, I’ve included a template you can download below to make things super easy.
What You’ll Need:- Felt pieces (any colors you like)
- Scissors
- Glue or a hot glue gun (with adult supervision)
- Ribbon for hanging
- Cotton or stuffing
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes (optional)
- Template (download below!)
Let’s Get Started!
1. Prep Your Materials:
Gather everything you need. If you’ve already cut out the felt pieces using the template, great! If not, snip them out and trim the edges to make them neat.
Start by gluing the tongue to the underneath muzzle. Add the nose on top. Lay out all the face pieces, including the muzzle, eyes, patch, and ears, on the front of the ornament to see how they look. Adjust them so everything is centered and where you like it.
3. Glue It Down:
Once you’re happy with the layout, glue the face pieces to the front piece of felt.
4. Add Whiskers and Googly Eyes:
Cut the pipe cleaners to desired length for the whiskers and glue them in place. Glue on the googly eyes or opt for felt pupils.
5. Add the Ribbon:
Cut a piece of ribbon to make a loop for hanging your ornament. Take your ribbon and glue the ends to the *inside* of the back piece of felt. Let it set for a minute.
6. Build the Ornament:
Apply glue along the edge of the back piece, leaving the top open for stuffing. Carefully place the front piece on top, aligning the edges. Press them together and let the glue set.
7. Stuff It:
Gently fill the head with cotton or stuffing through the opening. Once it’s nice and puffy, glue the top shut. Let the glue set, and hang on your tree.
Make It Your Own!
Make your ornament truly unique by customizing it to look just like your cat! Add stripes, spots, or unique features to make it extra special. If you prefer sewing, you can stitch the pieces together instead of glue. The possibilities are endless, so let your creativity run wild!
